Triplets with Autism to Compete in International Cycling Championship

Eric Murimi, Lenny Murea, and Ricky Karithi Kairichi, triplets with autism, are set to represent Kenya at the Virtus Time Trials in Roybon, France, on September 20, 2025.
The three, all 14 years will compete in an international cycling championship sanctioned by the World Virtus Sports Federation, a global body that organizes competitions for athletes with intellectual and developmental challenges.
Their love for cycling, which began at age five as a way to improve their coordination, has now turned into a dream.
Under the guidance of former national team cyclist Bernard Kabiru Kahindo and coach Nesmas Mbati, the triplets have trained rigorously at a residential camp in Nanyuki.
Their hard work has paid off, as they are now registered members of the Laikipia Cycling Club and are managed by the Pamoja Multi Sports Academy, which is overseeing all their preparations.
Despite their talent and determination, a significant challenge remains: funding. The team needs to raise KSh 2 million to cover the travel expenses for the triplets and their technical crew.
Unfortunately, the government has declined to support the mission, citing the event as an “open race.” This decision has placed the responsibility of raising funds on well-wishers and private supporters.
Their coaches and guardians are not only focused on the immediate goal of fundraising but are also using this opportunity to advocate for greater investment in sports for children with disabilities.
They believe that providing more resources and opportunities for athletes like the triplets is crucial for their development and can inspire many others.
