Takehiro Tomiyasu will undergo his medical test on Tuesday, before joining Ajax.

Ajax are set to complete the signing of Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, with multiple reports indicating that an agreement has been reached between the player and the Dutch club. The move is expected to be finalised once routine medical checks are completed.

Tomiyasu, who recently left Arsenal, becomes available as a free agent after an injury-disrupted spell in the Premier League. Ajax have moved quickly to secure his services as they look to strengthen their defensive options midway through the season.

The 27-year-old is valued for his versatility, with the ability to operate both as a centre-back and a full-back. Ajax see him as an experienced addition capable of providing depth and leadership, particularly as the club balances domestic and European commitments.

Concerns over Tomiyasu’s recent fitness record have reportedly influenced the structure of the deal, which is believed to be short-term. The arrangement allows Ajax to manage risk while giving the defender an opportunity to relaunch his career with regular football.

If completed, the transfer would mark Tomiyasu’s first spell in the Eredivisie and a new chapter following his time in England. An official announcement from Ajax is expected once all formalities are concluded.
