Three Kayole Starlets to Represent Kenya at the 2025 Homeless World Cup in Oslo

Kayole Starlets’ head coach, Mary Adhiambo, beamed with pride as three players—Lavyne Achola, Rose Mumbua, and Mercy Mung’uro—earned selection to represent Kenya at the upcoming 2025 Homeless World Cup. The tournament occurs in Oslo, Norway, from August 23 to 30.
Adhiambo emphasized how significant this opportunity is for the trio, highlighting the international exposure they’ll gain by competing against more experienced teams. She specifically mentioned Mexico as an example of a formidable opponent that the team will face.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual event that aims to spotlight homelessness and promote the empowerment of vulnerable individuals through sport. Both men’s and women’s teams compete under a special format: four players per side and matches lasting just 14 minutes.
Kenya’s women’s team has been placed in Group C, where they will go up against defending champions Mexico, along with teams from Northern Ireland, Sweden, Greece, and Zimbabwe.
The tournament, which began in Graz, Austria in 2003, is organized by the Homeless World Cup Foundation based in Scotland and changes hosting countries annually.
Strict eligibility rules are enforced to ensure inclusivity: participating players cannot have competed in previous editions and must have experienced homelessness within the past year. Notable past editions include the 2010 event in Rio de Janeiro, which attracted more than 60 nations.
