Thousands Attend Grand Mashujaa Day Celebration in Kericho
The Kericho Green Stadium in Kericho County was transformed into a lively carnival on Friday, with thousands of Kenyans gathering to commemorate the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations, to be overseen by President William Ruto.
As early as 5 am, the stadium witnessed an influx of attendees for this year's event, which includes the launch of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), a pre-election promise by the Kenya Kwanza government aimed at enhancing healthcare in the nation. Security was significantly heightened at the renovated stadium as Kenyans flocked to honor heroes' day.
By 3 am on Friday, long queues had already formed as people made their way into the venue. They underwent thorough screening by members of the General Service Unit (GSU), the National Police Service (NPS), and the National Youth Service (NYS) before entering the stadium.
Notably, this marks the first occasion when Kericho County has hosted the national day event, following last year's Mashujaa Day held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
