Thomas Tuchel has signed a contract extension to remain England men’s national team head coach until June 2028, the Football Association confirmed on Thursday.
The new agreement ensures the German tactician will lead the Three Lions through the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2028, which will be co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
Tuchel, who took charge in January 2025, was initially appointed on a deal running through the 2026 World Cup. His extension follows a strong start to his tenure, including an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign.
Speaking after the announcement, Tuchel said he was very happy and proud to extend his time with England. He added that he had loved every minute of working with the players and coaching staff so far and was eager to lead the team into the World Cup.
He described the opportunity to guide England into two major tournaments as a privilege and expressed confidence in the squad’s potential to achieve success on the international stage.
The FA said continuity and stability were central to the decision, noting that Tuchel’s backroom staff have also committed their futures through to Euro 2028.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham welcomed the extension, stating that Tuchel is the right person to steer the national team forward during a crucial competitive cycle.
Tuchel’s renewed commitment comes amid speculation linking him with high-profile club roles, but the extension signals his focus remains firmly on England’s international ambitions.
England are set to begin their World Cup campaign in North America later this year, with preparations now continuing under confirmed long-term leadership.
