Tana River County Chairman Urges Support For Persons With Disabilities Affected By Floods
Tana River County Chairman, Mr. Said Babwoya, has appealed to the National government, county governments, and non-governmental organizations to step in and provide assistance to persons with disabilities affected by the recent floods in the county.
Speaking to the press in Hola town on Wednesday, the Chairman urged humanitarian organizations to supply food and non-food items such as mosquito nets, blankets, and kitchen sets to individuals with disabilities impacted by the floods caused by the overflowing River Tana due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.
Mr. Babwoya, accompanied by the Secretary, Mrs. Elizabeth Balo, emphasized that during flood situations, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are the most vulnerable groups and require particular attention.
He stated that individuals with disabilities have been severely affected and require special support due to the nature of their disabilities.
He further added that in times of disease outbreaks, medical drugs should be provided to disabled persons, as floodwaters can contribute to the spread of illnesses such as diarrhea and malaria, which demand immediate attention.
