Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior has confirmed he is on course to become the new Chelsea manager, revealing he has reached a verbal agreement with the Premier League club and is preparing to leave his role in Ligue 1.

Speaking during a press conference in France, the 41-year-old said discussions with Chelsea were advanced and only formalities remained. “I haven’t signed yet, but I have agreed verbally with Chelsea,” Rosenior told reporters, adding that the deal was expected to be completed soon.

Rosenior acknowledged the unusual nature of confirming the move before paperwork is finalised but said transparency was important. “This is different to anything I’ve ever done, but everything is agreed and it should go through very shortly,” he said.

The English coach paid tribute to Strasbourg, where he has been in charge since 2024, describing his spell at the club in emotional terms. “This has been the best period of my professional career,” Rosenior said, thanking players, staff and supporters for their support.

Explaining his decision, Rosenior admitted the opportunity to manage Chelsea was difficult to refuse. “There are certain clubs you can’t turn down. Chelsea is an incredible club and this is an unbelievable opportunity,” he noted.

Chelsea are searching for a new head coach following the departure of Enzo Maresca, with the club’s hierarchy moving quickly to secure Rosenior. Both Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by the BlueCo consortium, a link that eased negotiations.

Rosenior is expected to be officially unveiled at Stamford Bridge once contractual details are completed, with reports indicating he could take charge within days as Chelsea look to stabilise their season and push for a strong finish.
