Stadium or Screen? Kenya Unveils Six Fan Zones Ahead of Zambia CHAN Clash

Kenya’s government has designated six official fan zones for the Harambee Stars’ clash against Zambia at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The move, announced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on August 13, 2025, aims to ease congestion at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, while delivering a vibrant match-day atmosphere beyond the stadium.

The fan zones will be strategically located across Nairobi—at Uhuru Park, Lucky Summer (Ngomongo area, behind Kasarani Stadium), Dandora Stadium, Utalii (Stima Club), Jacaranda Grounds, and Kibera DC Grounds—so that even fans without tickets can cheer on the team safely and comfortably.

These zones are part of a broader effort to comply with CAF’s safety regulations. CAF has capped attendance at 27,000 fans, or 60% capacity, after previous security breaches, and has made digital tickets mandatory—printed or thermal tickets are no longer valid.

To bolster security, additional forces will be deployed at both the stadium and the fan zones. Mvurya emphasized the importance of orderly fan conduct, warning against purchasing fake tickets and reminding Kenyans that failure to adhere to regulations could jeopardize Kenya’s ability to host future major tournaments, including AFCON 2027.
