Sofapaka FC have officially been relegated from the FKF Premier League to the National Super League following a decisive result that sealed their fate.

The 2009 champions were condemned to the drop after a dramatic 2–2 draw against Mathare United in a crucial end-of-season clash.

Sofapaka entered the match knowing that only a win would keep their survival hopes alive, but they failed to hold on despite taking the lead during the encounter.

A late equaliser conceded in stoppage time proved devastating, denying them maximum points and confirming their relegation from the top flight.

The result marks the end of Sofapaka’s long stay in the Premier League, having been ever-present since their promotion and title-winning debut campaign in 2009.

Their drop is particularly significant as it represents the first time in the club’s history that they have been relegated from the top division.

Throughout the season, Sofapaka struggled for consistency, registering a poor run of results that left them anchored in the relegation zone for extended periods.

A lack of cutting edge in attack and defensive lapses repeatedly cost the team valuable points in tightly contested matches.

Off the pitch challenges, including financial constraints and squad instability, also contributed to a difficult campaign for the club.

The relegation battle in the FKF Premier League had remained competitive, but Sofapaka ultimately failed to match the performances of fellow strugglers in the closing stages.

Their demotion means they will now compete in the National Super League next season, a significant fall for a club once considered among Kenya’s elite.

Attention now turns to rebuilding efforts at Sofapaka, with the club expected to reassess its structure and squad as it seeks a swift return to the top tier.
