Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, describing it as deeply troubling and calling for urgent investigations.

Speaking after visiting the injured lawmaker, Sifuna said the incident had raised serious concerns about safety and governance.

“Today’s incident is very disturbing. It is something that deeply pains us,” Sifuna said.

He added that those behind the attack were known and should be brought to justice without delay.

“The information we have is that the youths who attacked Hon. Osotsi are known and can be identified. Those who facilitated them are also known,” he stated.

Sifuna questioned the state’s ability to protect citizens, saying such incidents undermine public confidence.

“This raises serious concern about the kind of government we have, a government that should protect citizens and uphold justice,” he said.

He stressed that violence cannot be justified under any circumstances, even in the face of political differences.

“Even if there are disagreements, there is no justification for such violence. There is no law that allows people to take matters into their own hands the way it happened today,” he said.

The senator called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure accountability.

“We therefore call on the police to act swiftly and arrest these youths. They must also investigate who sent them,” he said.

Sifuna also defended the right of leaders to move freely across the country without fear.

“We believe as leaders we have the right to operate anywhere in Kenya. No one should be restricted from any part of the country,” he said.

He reassured the public that Osotsi is receiving medical care and is in stable condition.

“We have been informed that he is in stable condition and continues to receive treatment,” he said.

Sifuna urged calm and unity, warning against allowing violence to take root in society.

“We will continue to pursue this matter until justice is done. Those responsible must be held accountable so that such incidents do not happen again,” he said.
