Shambolic Manchester United Implode Against Spurs

Manchester United suffered a heavy Premier League defeat at Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur beat the Reds 6-1.

There was no hint of the upset in a dramatic match, which also saw Anthony Martial sent off in the first half, when we took an early lead through a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

Spurs scored twice in three minutes to take the lead through Tanguy Ndombele and Heung-Min Son in a remarkable opening seven minutes.

Martial was then red carded after 28 minutes and Spurs scored another two before half-time from Harry Kane and a second from Son against our 10-men.

The Londoners added another couple in the second 45 minutes as Kane netted from the spot and Serge Aurier made it six to complete a miserable day. It was a breath-taking start to the match and the incidents kept coming and coming.

United were awarded a penalty after just 24 seconds when Martial was fouled and Fernandes kept up his 100 per cent penalty success for the Reds.

But Spurs’s answer was swift and vicious. Mourinho’s side levelled in the fourth minute when Tanguy Ndombele thrashed home after United’s defenders failed to clear. The visitors turned it around completely three minutes later as they went in the lead 2-1 when Son took advantage of Harry Kane’s quick free-kick and lifted the ball past David De Gea.

The day got even worse when Martial was sent off after 28 minutes. The French striker was red-carded by referee Anthony Taylor after a near-post altercation with Erik Lamela as the warring pair waited for a corner.

Solskjaer made two changes at half-time with Nemanja Matic and Fernandes going off and replaced by Fred and Scott McTominay.

However, before the pair could have any impact, a rapid and incisive Spurs move set Aurier up to score the visitors’s fifth after 51 minutes.

Donny van de Beek joined the action in the 67th-minute but it was a thankless task attempting to impress with the game well out of United’s reach and Spurs in control.

De Gea saved well from Kane after 72 minutes but the pair squared up again six minutes later in a penalty shoot-out after Paul Pogba fouled Spurs sub Ben Davies. The England striker won the duel to make it 6-1 and ensure it was a day to forget for the Reds. Spurs mercilessly took full advantage of a shell-shocked 10-man United. Kane made it 3-1 two minutes after Martial’s exit and then Son scored his second from an Aurier cross to complete a first 45 minutes of huge disappointment that had started so well.
