Senate Retreat In Mombasa
The Senate business committee is converging in Mombasa county for further induction on how they should discharge their mandate in a bid to fulfill the demanding duty of the legislature.
Deputy speaker Kathuri Murungi speaking during the official opening of the induction said, the committee will focus on thematic areas among them the mandate and legislative process, and marshaling of the legislative business among others.
Kathuri further noted that article 124(1) mandates each house of the parliament namely the Senate and the National assembly, to establish committees, and draft standing orders for the orderly conduct of its proceedings and those of its committees.
According to the committee's mandate, the induction will ensure their actions and decisions go a long way in cementing the noble ideas of the senate of the republic of Kenya.
Kathuri reiterated that Kenyans have high expectations and as legislatures are committed to finding lasting solutions to problems affecting the nation among them, harsh economic times, adverse effects of climate and un employment.
Leader of majority in the senate Aaron Cheruiyot said senate business committee is the most critical decision making body of the house hence the country drawing better values upon checking laws enacted by parliament.
On the issue of the stand-off being experienced in Meru county between governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of the County Assembly the senators have called on the leadership of the County and other leaders to have a seating and put the matter to rest.
Meanwhile, governor Kawira Mwangaza in response to the call by the leaders has written a letter inviting the county senator, all Members of Parliament, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for a consultative meeting to address the ongoing row.
In the letter on Monday, Kawira called Senator Kathuri Murungi, all Meru MPs led by their Chair Dr. Mutunga Kanyuithia, and MCAs together with their speaker to a meeting on Thursday, November 3, at her boardroom.
