Security Officers Urged To Take Care Of PWD Protesters During Demonstrations

In an engaging podcast dubbed The Hashtag, which airs on Signs TV and is hosted by Chris Mololo, Caroline Wanjira urged security officers to exercise humanity while handling protesters with disabilities.
With plans underway for the Generation Z (Gen Z) memorial protests marking one year since the historic demonstrations that demanded the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024, Wanjira called on the police to take good care of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) who may participate in the protests.
Wanjira emphasized that PWDs are entitled to the same constitutional rights as all other citizens.
"As Persons with Disabilities, it’s also our right to express ourselves through demonstrations. Yet, many of us face challenges when exercising our constitutional rights. I urge everyone to share their personal experiences during public engagements and protests." Said Wanjira.
As Kenyan youths prepare to march tomorrow in memory of the lives lost during the famous anti-Finance Bill protests, all eyes are on how the police will handle protesters this time.
The use of excessive force by police during demonstrations has been widely condemned by various human rights defenders, including the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), which has described the unfortunate clashes between protesters and police as a major factor undermining the country’s democracy.
