President William Samoei Ruto interacts with beneficiaries of NYOTA fund from Nyanza counties

President William Samoei Ruto on Thursday interacted with beneficiaries of the NYOTA Start-Up Capital programme from Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to development-driven transformation in the Gusii region.

Speaking in Kisii County, the President said the area would not be transformed through political rhetoric but through practical development projects and well-structured economic programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.

“Kisii County will not be transformed by rhetoric but by development projects and programmes,” President Ruto said during the engagement with youth entrepreneurs benefiting from the NYOTA initiative.

He noted that the national government is working closely with progressive leaders in the region, led by Governor Simba Arati, to fast-track development and improve the quality of life for residents.

President Ruto revealed that the government has invested Sh33 billion in the construction of affordable housing units, modern markets and hostels as part of its broader urban renewal and housing agenda.

He added that an additional Sh7 billion has been committed to the upgrading of roads, a move expected to improve connectivity, support trade and stimulate economic activity across the county.

The Head of State further disclosed that more than Sh400 million has been invested in the modernisation of Suneka Airport, positioning Kisii as a key regional transport and investment hub.

In the sports sector, President Ruto announced plans to upgrade and expand Gusii Stadium to international standards, saying the project will help nurture local talent and boost sports development in the region.

During the visit, the President broke ground for the construction of the Sh350 million Nyambera Modern Market, a flagship project expected to be completed later in the year.

The modern facility will host over 1,000 traders, providing a dignified trading environment and strengthening Kisii’s role as a commercial centre.

President Ruto said the projects demonstrate the government’s bottom-up economic agenda, which prioritises youth empowerment, infrastructure development and inclusive growth.

He urged NYOTA beneficiaries to make prudent use of the start-up capital to grow sustainable businesses that create jobs and drive long-term economic progress.
