President William Ruto and ODM Party leader Oburu Oginga officially opened the Siaya Community Digital Hub, Bondo, Siaya County.
President William Samoei Ruto visited Siaya County on Sunday, March 8, unveiling a series of development initiatives aimed at ensuring the region keeps pace with national growth.
The president inaugurated the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo Town, a facility designed to provide youth and residents with digital skills, internet access, and opportunities to engage in the digital economy.
He was accompanied by senior officials, including Oburu Odinga, ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo, and other government representatives.
Speaking at the launch, Ruto emphasised that Siaya would no longer lag behind in development, highlighting planned investments across roads, housing, markets, education, and electrification.
Among the projects announced were 300 kilometres of new tarmac roads, 8,000 affordable housing units, 28 modern markets, 1,000 student hostels, and an upgrade of Siaya Stadium to international standards. He also pledged investment in blue economy initiatives around Usenge Beach to generate employment and stimulate lake-based trade.
In healthcare, the president said funds would be allocated to upgrade a key hospital to Level Six status, improving access to specialised care for residents.
Ruto called on politicians to reject ethnic politics and division, stressing that development must take priority over tribal mobilisation, and urged unity among leaders and citizens alike.
He described the cooperation between his party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and ODM as a partnership of equals, aimed at fostering national stability and shared progress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the youth, Ruto urged them not to be manipulated into violence or political schemes, encouraging them instead to engage with opportunities provided through government initiatives such as affordable housing, labour export programmes, and digital skills training.
Oburu Odinga praised the expansion of ICT infrastructure, saying it would equip young people with critical skills and employment pathways in the digital economy.
Analysts say the president’s visit, combining development pledges with appeals for unity, reflects an effort to strengthen support in a region traditionally aligned with opposition politics while underlining the government’s commitment to equitable socioeconomic growth.
