President William Ruto and Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki lay foundation stone for Doldol Huduma Centre in Laikipia County on May 8, 2026.
President William Samoei Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Friday led a major development tour in Doldol, Laikipia County, where they launched projects, inspected ongoing works and addressed residents on the government’s national transformation agenda.
Addressing residents in Doldol, President Ruto said the government was committed to ensuring that all parts of Kenya benefited equally from development programmes regardless of historical marginalisation.
“Mnajua tulikubaliana na nyinyi ya kwamba wakati tunapanga maendeleo ya Kenya, maendeleo ya kila sehemu ya Kenya ipangwe. Na ndio mimi nawaeleza watu wa Laikipia pale nyuma Laikipia iliachwa nyuma. Lakini mimi nawaambia leo ile kuachwa nyuma mliachwa nyuma, mimi nimeamua hamtaachwa nyuma tena. Tunatembea pamoja,” said the President.
The Head of State stressed that every region of the country was important and deserved equal attention in national planning and allocation of resources.
“Kila sehemu ya Kenya ni ya muhimu. Na lazima tupange maendeleo ya kila sehemu ya Kenya,” he told residents during the rally.
President Ruto announced that the government had allocated KSh4 billion for the construction of the long-awaited Nanyuki-Doldol road, a project residents have demanded for years due to poor transport and accessibility challenges.
“Leo vile vile nimekuja hapa kuwahakikishia ya kwamba hii barabara ambayo imewasumbua miaka mingi, barabara kutoka kule Nanyuki mpaka Doldol... tumewapatia pesa ya serikali shilingi bilioni nne kutengeneza hii barabara yenu,” he said.
The President further assured residents that works on the road would commence soon after the government secured a contractor to undertake the project.
“Tuko na mkandarasi anaitwa Hang atakuja hapa katika wiki mbili zijazo aanze hii barabara,” said President Ruto.
According to the President, the government is currently implementing a broader road development programme across Laikipia County covering approximately 217 kilometres aimed at boosting trade, transport and economic opportunities.
President Ruto said improved roads would help farmers transport produce to markets and support industries and businesses in the region that have long struggled with poor infrastructure.
During the tour, the President also inspected the progress of the Sipili-Ol Moran road project in Laikipia North Constituency, which he described as a strategic road expected to unlock the county’s economic potential.
On education, President Ruto defended his administration’s teacher recruitment programme, saying the government had employed thousands of teachers to improve access to education across the country.
“Ndio ya kwanza nilisema tuajiri walimu zaidi ndio kila mtoto wa Kenya apate nafasi ya kusoma jameni... Na ndio sababu tumeajiri walimu 56,000 Kenya,” he said.
The President also pledged direct support to Doldol schools, announcing additional funding aimed at improving infrastructure and learning conditions in the area.
“Nimeamua nitafuta milioni 20 niweke katika shule yenu ya Doldol ndio hiyo shule iamke kidogo,” he announced to applause from residents.
In addition, the government allocated KSh60 million for the construction of five new schools in Laikipia North in a move expected to improve access to education in remote areas.
President Ruto also launched the construction of the Doldol Huduma Centre, saying the project would bring critical government services closer to residents who currently travel long distances to access documentation and administrative services.
“Mkitaka ID mnaenda Nanyuki, mkitaka birth certificate mnaenda Nanyuki. Sasa leo mimi nimekuja kuanzisha Huduma Centre hapa,” he said.
The Head of State promised that the Huduma Centre would be completed within three months and would significantly ease access to government services in the region.
“Ndani ya miezi mitatu Huduma Centre imekamilika nilete wafanyakazi mambo yenu ya ID, mambo yenu ya kutafuta birth certificate, mambo yenu ya kutafuta huduma ya serikali yote mtapata hapa mkiwa Doldol,” he added.
The facility will also house an ICT hub and is expected to offer 168 government services to residents of Doldol and neighbouring areas.
On healthcare, President Ruto urged Kenyans to register under the Social Health Authority programme, saying the government wanted to eliminate cases where families sell property to pay hospital bills.
“Hatutaki mwananchi auze shamba yake ama ng'ombe yake ati kulipa gharama ya hospitali. Tunataka gharama ya hospitali ilipwe na Serikali ya Kenya,” he stated.
The President emphasised that universal health coverage remained one of the government’s priorities under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Na hiyo bima ya afya ya SHA tumesema kila mwananchi ajiandikishe ndani ya SHA,” he told the gathering.
On security, President Ruto said the government had made significant progress in combating insecurity and banditry in parts of Laikipia and neighbouring counties.
“Tunaelewana jameni? Tumekubaliana sana wale wakora walikuwa wanatusumbua hapa na mambo ya insecurity, nimepambana nao kiasi,” he said.
The President warned criminals believed to be hiding in the Mukogodo Forest area that the government would intensify security operations to flush them out.
“Kuna wachache wamebaki lakini mimi nawapatia ilani nikiwa hapa: Wale watu wamebaki wakizunguka hapa hasa Mgogoro Forest, waambie watoke kwa forest. Otherwise wakikaa hapo kwa forest watakutana na mimi,” warned President Ruto.
On land ownership, the Head of State assured residents that the government would issue title deeds to families in the region to enhance land security and ownership rights.
“Hapa nitakuja na title deeds zenu tuhakikishe ya kwamba kila mtu anaishi kwa kipande yake na ako na hati miliki,” he pledged.
President Ruto later toured Nyahururu Town in Laikipia West Constituency where he inspected the ongoing 955-unit Starehe Affordable Housing Project and expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction works.
The President said the government was investing about KSh15 billion in affordable housing and market infrastructure projects in Laikipia County, including the construction of 13 modern markets aimed at supporting traders and creating employment opportunities.
Deputy President Kindiki said the government would continue implementing transformative development projects across the country despite political criticism, insisting that infrastructure, housing and social programmes were already changing lives in many regions.
The Doldol and Nyahururu tours formed part of President Ruto’s wider development inspection programme across the country, where he has been commissioning projects, inspecting ongoing works and rallying support for the government’s economic agenda.
