President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at the grassroots, positioning it as a national and inclusive party ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking at State House, Nairobi, Ruto emphasized the party’s focus on unity, shared prosperity, and agenda-based governance that serves all Kenyans.

The President said UDA aims to embed participatory structures at all levels, ensuring that the party reflects the aspirations of citizens from every region. He stressed that grassroots mobilisation is key to building a sustainable political movement.

Ruto highlighted the party’s commitment to enhancing women’s inclusion in leadership, pledging fair opportunities in party nominations and stressing the need for free, fair, and democratic selection processes.

The forum brought together 12,353 UDA aspirants, including 149 for governor, 279 for Senate, 323 women representative hopefuls, 1,372 MPs, and 10,230 MCAs, reflecting unprecedented interest in party leadership positions.

He said such a turnout demonstrates the party’s growing national appeal and ability to attract young and experienced leaders alike. Ruto described it as evidence that UDA is positioning itself as a truly inclusive political organization.

The President also highlighted UDA’s commitment to agenda-based governance, which he said focuses on delivering practical solutions rather than tribal or personality-driven politics.

On the economy, Ruto pointed to progress in implementing the party’s manifesto, saying over 80 per cent of commitments have already been delivered, contributing to macroeconomic stability and tangible benefits for citizens.

He announced plans to ease the cost of living, including tax exemptions for workers earning up to KSh30,000 a month and a reduction of PAYE tax from 30 per cent to 25 per cent for those earning up to KSh50,000.

Ruto described these measures as part of the Bottom-Up economic model, which prioritizes dignity, opportunity, and relief for ordinary Kenyans. He said this approach ensures that economic growth reaches all levels of society.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has indicated that the proposed tax changes will be submitted to Parliament for approval to ensure legal backing and smooth implementation.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other UDA leaders reinforced the President’s message, noting that the tax reforms will directly benefit more than two million workers across the country.

Ruto urged aspirants to focus on inclusive leadership and service delivery, saying that the party expects its members to champion the interests of their constituents and uphold democratic principles.

The aspirants’ forum comes as UDA intensifies preparations for party primaries and the general election, signaling the party’s commitment to grassroots empowerment, internal democracy, and policy-driven governance.
