President William Ruto on Saturday attended a thanksgiving ceremony in honour of Judith Pareno at Mashuuru in Kajiado County, where he renewed calls for national unity and accelerated development. The event brought together national and county leaders in a show of political goodwill and regional solidarity.

The ceremony celebrated Pareno’s appointment as Principal Secretary in the State Department for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, a position she assumed following parliamentary approval in 2025. Leaders described her rise as a milestone for women in public service.

During the gathering, the President underscored the need to place the country’s unity above partisan interests, saying national transformation requires cooperation across political formations. He reiterated that development priorities must transcend political competition.

Ruto pointed to ongoing government programmes, including affordable housing, electricity connectivity and road infrastructure upgrades, noting that such initiatives are intended to deliver tangible benefits to citizens across counties.

The Head of State also indicated that the government is working to address longstanding land ownership concerns affecting Maa-speaking regions, including Kajiado, as part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing equity and stability.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku were among senior officials present at the thanksgiving event. Members of Parliament and county assembly representatives also attended.

Leaders affiliated with both the United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement signalled continued cooperation on legislative and national matters, framing the ceremony as an opportunity to demonstrate bipartisan engagement.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina attended the function, reflecting a cross-section of political leadership at the event.

Pareno, a lawyer by profession with years of experience in public service, pledged to discharge her mandate with diligence and accountability in the justice and constitutional affairs docket.

The Mashuuru thanksgiving concluded with renewed appeals for cohesion and collective action, with leaders urging Kenyans to support reforms and development programmes designed to strengthen governance and improve livelihoods nationwide.
