President William Samoei Ruto has emerged as the most popular presidential candidate in the latest Infotrak opinion poll, securing 28 percent support among Kenyans surveyed. The poll, conducted nationwide between 19th and 20th December 2025, gauged public preference if elections were held today.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i came in second with 13 percent backing, positioning him as the closest challenger to President Ruto in the poll. Meanwhile, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka followed closely with 12 percent support.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino received 7 percent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was at 5 percent, rounding out the top five contenders. A notable 25 percent of respondents were still undecided, highlighting a significant portion of the electorate yet to make up their minds.

The poll reflects current political dynamics, with President Ruto maintaining a clear lead despite competition from seasoned politicians and emerging leaders. Analysts say the high number of undecided voters could influence the race as campaigns intensify.

Infotrak’s survey sampled 1,000 respondents from across Kenya, covering both urban and rural areas, and is considered indicative of prevailing voter sentiment. The methodology involved face-to-face interviews and random sampling to ensure a representative picture of public opinion.

Political analysts have noted that while President Ruto leads, the relatively close figures for Matiang’i and Kalonzo suggest potential shifts if campaigns focus on undecided and swing voters. The poll also points to growing interest in younger politicians like Babu Owino, whose support reflects a youthful voter base.

As Kenya prepares for the next general elections, these figures provide a snapshot of the political landscape. Stakeholders and political parties are expected to use the insights to refine strategies, while voters continue to monitor candidates’ performance and policy positions ahead of the polls.
