Ruto Fires Back At 'Ruto Must Go' Slogans, Challenging Opposition To Present A Solid Plan

BY BARAKA SIMBA
President William Ruto has dismissed growing chants calling for his resignation, branding slogans like “Ruto Must Go” and “Wantam” as lacking substance and vision for Kenya’s future.
Speaking during the bell-ringing ceremony at the Nairobi Securities Exchange to mark the listing of Linzi Asset-Backed Security, Ruto called on critics to present credible alternatives instead of engaging in what he termed “slogan politics.”
In a pointed jab at retired Chief Justice David Maraga, who has expressed political ambitions for 2027, Ruto questioned the logic of aspiring to lead a country one labels a "failed state."
“I listened to one gentleman who retired the other day, and he wants to be the president. He said Kenya is a failed state… and I asked myself: for 40 years, you worked in a failed state? You want to be president of a failed state?” Ruto posed.
Visibly agitated, the president said Kenya is a great nation and challenged Maraga’s credibility to lead a country he allegedly does not believe in.
Ruto further criticized opposition voices for failing to offer a viable alternative for Kenya’s development.
“What are your reasons for these ‘Ruto Must Go’ slogans? Maybe you don’t agree with my plans—which is okay—but at least present your counterplan,” he said, adding that empty chants are “wash-wash conmanship.”
As the country’s political climate heats up ahead of the 2027 general elections, Ruto maintained that his government has delivered and any meaningful opposition must be grounded in alternative ideas, not slogans.
