President William Ruto has warned that any government official or security officer found aiding or protecting drug traffickers or illicit alcohol networks will be dismissed from service and prosecuted. He described alcohol and drug abuse as a national emergency and vowed to intensify efforts to eradicate the menace.

He stressed that no one in public service will be allowed to shield criminals.

The President urged Kenyans to hold leaders accountable, emphasizing that performance and impact, rather than promises, will define leadership credibility in 2026 and beyond. He called on citizens to actively monitor public service delivery and ensure that officials honor their commitments.

Ruto also highlighted plans to fast-track the tarmacking of 6,000 kilometres of roads currently under construction, promising improved infrastructure and connectivity across the country. Among the priority projects, the Rironi-Mau Summit Road is expected to open to traffic by mid-2027.

In addition, the President announced the launch of the Galana-Kulalu irrigation dam project, aimed at expanding the country’s irrigation capacity. While he did not provide a completion timeline, the project is expected to support agriculture and food security in the region.

The New Year period also coincided with the burial of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga’s father in N’garua, Laikipia County. Njenga used the occasion to call for unity among leaders and residents, urging peaceful engagement and collaboration as Kenya approaches the 2027 elections.
