Ukrainian officials have confirmed that at least three people were killed in overnight drone and missile attacks launched by Russia across multiple regions, in what authorities describe as a large-scale aerial assault targeting both infrastructure and civilian areas.
The strikes, carried out late Wednesday into Thursday, involved a combination of long-range missiles and waves of attack drones. Ukrainian air defence systems intercepted a significant number of the incoming threats, but several projectiles penetrated defences and struck populated areas.
In the capital, Kyiv, explosions were reported across multiple districts, damaging residential buildings and sparking fires. Emergency responders were deployed to affected sites, with casualties reported and several people injured.
Southern regions also bore the brunt of the attacks, particularly in Odesa, where infrastructure and homes were hit in successive waves. Local officials confirmed fatalities and injuries, with rescue operations continuing into the morning.
Further strikes were recorded in Dnipro and surrounding areas, where residential properties sustained damage and emergency services responded to multiple fire outbreaks. Other regions, including Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, also reported impacts and injuries.
Ukraine’s air force said hundreds of drones—many believed to be Iranian-designed Shahed models—were launched alongside dozens of missiles, highlighting the increasing scale and coordination of Russia’s aerial campaign.
Officials noted that while early reports placed the death toll at three, the number of casualties could rise as search and rescue efforts continue and more information becomes available from affected regions.
Ukrainian authorities have condemned the strikes, accusing Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and residential zones, and renewed calls for additional international support to strengthen air defence capabilities.
The latest bombardment underscores a broader escalation in long-range attacks, as Russia continues to deploy large drone swarms in combination with missile strikes aimed at overwhelming Ukraine’s defensive systems.
The situation remains fluid, with officials warning that further attacks cannot be ruled out as the conflict enters another intensified phase.
