Rosenior was furious after Arsenal’s coaching staff entered the section of the pitch designated for Chelsea’s warm-up.
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has accused Arsenal’s coaching staff of showing a lack of respect during the warm-up session ahead of the Carabao Cup semifinal second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Rosenior was visibly furious before kick-off after members of Arsenal’s backroom staff entered the section of the pitch designated for Chelsea’s warm-up, prompting a heated confrontation caught on television cameras.
The Chelsea coach was seen shouting and gesturing angrily, demanding that the Arsenal staff remain in their own area as tensions briefly flared moments before the match.
Speaking after the game, Rosenior said the incident disrupted his players and coaching staff and crossed an unwritten line in football etiquette. “When you warm up you have your half and the other team have theirs,” he said.
He explained that his reaction was driven by concern for his team’s preparation. “In that moment, I didn’t think it was right where they were operating. They were affecting my lads’ and staff’s warm-up,” Rosenior stated.
Rosenior admitted his response may have been forceful but insisted it was necessary. “I asked them, maybe not politely, to make sure they stay in their half,” he said.
He rejected suggestions of gamesmanship, stressing that his complaint was purely about respect. “I’m not here to have mind games. It’s just what I think is right and respectful,” Rosenior added.
The Chelsea boss underlined that there are clear standards teams should follow before matches. “There are certain etiquettes in football. I always try and be as respectful as possible,” he said.
Rosenior was also keen to clarify that his frustration was not directed at Arsenal as a club or their manager. “I don’t have an issue with anyone at Arsenal Football Club. Mikel Arteta is someone I have so much respect for,” he said.
