Real Madrid overcame arch-rivals Barcelona 2–1 in a heated El Clásico clash at the Santiago Bernabéu to tighten their grip at the top of La Liga.
Kylian Mbappé fired the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute after combining neatly with Jude Bellingham. Barcelona hit back just before the break through Fermín López, who punished a rare defensive lapse to level the contest.
Madrid reclaimed the advantage moments later when Bellingham turned home Vinícius Jr’s low cross, restoring the hosts’ lead to the delight of a packed Bernabéu crowd of more than 78,000. Barcelona’s hopes of a late comeback faded after Pedri was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.
