Chelsea were held to a surprising 2-2 draw by Qarabag in their UEFA Champions League Group Stage clash on Tuesday night in Baku.
The Blues got off to a flying start when Estêvão opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but the home side quickly responded through Luiz Andrade in the 29th minute. Qarabag then went ahead just before halftime as M. Janković converted a penalty in the 39th minute to make it 2-1.
Chelsea fought back after the break, with Alejandro Garnacho equalizing in the 52nd minute to restore parity. Despite dominating much of the second half, Enzo Maresca's men failed to find a winner against the resilient Azerbaijani champions.
Both teams had heated moments, including bookings for Reece James, Moisés Caicedo, and M. Silva, as tempers flared late in the game.
The result leaves Chelsea with dropped points on the road as Qarabag earned a valuable draw to keep their league stage hopes alive.
