President William Samoei Ruto today publicly rebuked opposition leaders for resorting to body-shaming and personal attacks in their political rhetoric, saying such criticism will not deter Kenyans from backing his agenda ahead of the 2027 general election.
In an address to supporters, Ruto described elections as a contest of ideas and development plans, not a “beauty contest,” urging political rivals to focus on policy issues rather than personal insults.
The president’s remarks came during a development engagement in Migori County, where he inspected and commissioned infrastructure and community projects. Local leaders and residents gathered to hear his message on governance and public service.
Ruto inspected construction works at Kegonga Sub-County Hospital in Kuria East Constituency, a facility being developed with a KSh345 million investment aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare.
He also announced plans to invest KSh150 million in constructing hostels at Kegonga KMTC to provide accommodation for healthcare students and support medical training in the region.
In addition, the president highlighted plans to build a KSh200 million modern market in Kegonga town, expected to boost local trade and economic activity by providing improved infrastructure for traders.
Earlier, Ruto commissioned the 60-unit Mabera Affordable Housing Project in Kuria West Constituency, delivering modern and dignified homes for local residents.
He laid the foundation for the Mabera Modern Market, a KSh372 million investment designed to accommodate more than 1,000 traders and stimulate local commerce.
The president noted that over the past year, his administration has invested KSh2.4 billion in strengthening health facilities across Migori County, demonstrating a sustained commitment to public health.
Ruto also commissioned the Piny-Owacho Level 3 Hospital in Uriri Constituency, ensuring the facility will be fully equipped and staffed to serve the community effectively.
Today’s tour included the commissioning of the Sondu-Homa Bay-Awendo transmission line, a 76km project costing KSh1.5 billion, aimed at delivering reliable power to homes and businesses in the region.
He acknowledged support from KETRACO for the Ongen’g Community Water Project, which is expanding access to clean and reliable water for residents.
The president also commissioned the Kobodo Modern Market, one of 18 markets under construction in Homa Bay County at a total cost of KSh2.5 billion, aimed at boosting regional trade.
In his remarks to residents at Rodi Kopany, Ruto outlined his ongoing development agenda for the county and the nation, emphasising infrastructure, healthcare, housing, markets, and reliable power supply as key pillars of his economic strategy.
