Portugal confirmed their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after crushing Armenia 9–1 in their final UEFA Qualifier on Sunday. The hosts took control from the very start, opening the scoring in the 6th minute through Rúben Veiga before going on to deliver one of their most dominant performances of the campaign.
Armenia equalised in the 18th minute through Eduard Spertsyan, but that was the only moment they challenged Portugal’s authority. João Neves inspired the comeback with a brilliant hat-trick, striking in the 30th, 41st, and 81st minutes. Bruno Fernandes matched him with a treble of his own, scoring in first-half stoppage time and adding two penalties in the second half.
Gonçalo Ramos and Francisco Conceição added one goal each to complete the rout as Portugal overwhelmed Armenia with wave after wave of attack. The momentum graph in the match data reflected Portugal’s near-total dominance from kickoff to the final whistle.
The decisive win capped an unbeaten qualifying run for Roberto Martínez’s side, who now head to the 2026 World Cup as one of Europe’s strongest contenders after finishing their campaign with style and firepower.
