Political Activist Nicholas Oyoo Breaks Silence on Abduction, Links Ordeal to Electoral Justice Fight

Following a period of intense national concern, Nicholas Oyoo, the Secretary General of the Free Kenya Movement and a familiar political activist on the Signs Politics Today Show, has finally broken his silence.
While confirming his recent abduction alongside his colleague, Bob Njagi, Oyoo offered profound thanks to the media, persons with disabilities, and civil society for their invaluable solidarity during their ordeal.
The activist firmly asserts that their terrifying experience was not random but directly linked to their relentless political activism and fight for electoral fairness, compelling him to detail the events and the core mission of his movement.
Speaking on the "Politics Today" show with Jona Simba, Oyoo revealed that their abduction was ordered from within Kenya and was directly linked to their efforts to stop the recently concluded by-elections.
He explained that their actions stemmed from a petition they had filed with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on September 1st.
The core demand was for the IEBC to clear independent candidates on equal footing with those affiliated with party coalitions.
Oyoo claims this is an unresolved issue from the 2022 General Election, where the IEBC appealed a ruling and was granted a stay of execution.
He alleges that this stay has been continually and unlawfully used to govern the clearance of candidates up to the present day.
The plan, Oyoo disclosed, was to travel from Uganda to Kenya specifically to halt the elections and to advocate for the principles of the "Gen Z mantra," being "partyless, leaderless, and tribeless."
He underscored that the message of being "partyless" was their main agenda for the Kenyan public. He stated that they were picked up and treated as terrorists, explaining that the abduction was deliberately lengthy to buy time and prevent them from informing Kenyans about the by-elections and what he called the "IEBC iniquities."
Beyond the immediate electoral challenge, Oyoo outlined the broader goals championed by the Free Kenya Movement and allied civil society groups.
Their activism centers on fundamental constitutional and governance reforms. These include demanding respect for the voice of the people and working toward tax reforms through the framework of Article 43 of the Constitution.
Furthermore, they are pushing for key constitutional amendments by utilizing the mechanism provided under Article 257(3)(a).
Ultimately, the movement’s vision is focused on improving national governance, demanding accountability, and ensuring the effective and efficient use of national resources.
