Police have arrested two men after recovering 30 rounds of live ammunition from a public service vehicle (PSV) stopped at a security checkpoint in the Kanyonyoo area along the Garissa–Thika Highway.
The arrest was made on Tuesday when a multi-agency security team conducting routine road checks stopped the PSV and discovered the ammunition hidden in a backpack on a passenger seat.
The two suspects were immediately taken into custody and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station for further questioning and processing.
Authorities have impounded the PSV involved in the incident, while the recovered ammunition has been secured as evidence for ongoing investigations.
The National Police Service (NPS) said such operations are part of broader efforts to combat the illegal possession and movement of firearms along major highways.
Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities yet to confirm whether the suspects have admitted ownership of the ammunition or if additional charges will be filed.
Local residents commended the police for the timely intervention, noting that road insecurity has been a growing concern in the region.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to public safety and warned that anyone found transporting illegal arms will face stringent legal action under Kenyan law.
