United Opposition team led by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua Kengeleni in Mombasa during the coastal tour on Sunday 26th April 2026.

Democracy for the Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua and The Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka were in Mombasa on Sunday, 26 April 2026, for a coordinated opposition tour that included a church service at Prophetic Embassy Church of All Nations, followed by public engagements in Changamwe and a major rally at Tononoka Grounds.

The day began with a religious service before shifting into a politically charged programme that focused on governance, infrastructure, judiciary concerns, and regional leadership dynamics.

At Changamwe, Gachagua delivered a forceful address questioning the credibility of several national infrastructure projects, especially the Standard Gauge Railway extension from Naivasha to Malaba. He described it in strong terms, stating: “I have told the people of the SG extension from Naivasha to Malaba is a fraud.”

He further alleged inconsistencies in project documentation, claiming that officials from Kenya Railways and the Ministry of Transport had told him there was no contract. He challenged the government to respond directly, saying: “Some officers have called me from Kenya railways this morning. Others from the Ministry of Transport and they have told me there's no contract. It's another con game and I want to challenge President William Ruto. If you have a contract for SG, please publish it tomorrow.”

He also questioned financing and timelines linked to the project, adding: “We see the commencement date and the date of completion. It is just a fraud to confuse the people of Luo Nyanza. But there's no contract. Even the Bank of China, they have said they cannot fund that project. So there is nothing.”

Extending his criticism to road projects, he referred to the Rironi–Mau Summit road, stating: “The  construction the road from Rironi to Maumit that was launched by William Ruto with CRBC. Again, there's no contract. Is a corn con game.”

He insisted that official documents would not be produced, saying: “As sure as December 25 is Christmas, he will not publish because there are no contracts.”

Shifting to judicial and personal matters, Gachagua reflected on legal disputes and their impact on his family. He said: “Petition challenging that illegal process national assembly even when I told my children I’m going to court they are opposed to it say dad you face humiliation and embarrassment please don't go back again forget about it.”

He added that his family had been emotionally affected, stating: “My children were traumatized that a man we had helped to be president was embarrassing us and humiliating us before the people of Kenya.”

Despite this, he expressed trust in the judiciary, saying: “We have faith in our judicial system that it should be able to give justice regarding Ashawaga, his supporters and the people of Kenya.”

He continued: “We have faith that the three judges will do what is right, apply the law and give justice... all we are asking is justice because this is a country of the rule of law.”

He also warned against abuse of authority, stating: “Impunity should not rule over this country. We should have some semblance of law and order because that is how countries are run.”

At Changamwe, he also turned to Mombasa’s leadership structure, emphasising integrity and governance reform. He said: “A man, a leader who can refuse a bribe of 20 million can be entrusted to take care of the resources of the great county of Mombasa.”

He criticised historical political dominance in the county, adding: “For the longest, one family has decided what will happen in Mombasa. You have a chance and an opportunity this coming election to liberate the people of Mombasa from one family to entrench democracy and allow the people of Mombasa to choose leaders who will serve them.”

He concluded the Mombasa engagements with appreciation to supporters, saying: “I want to thank you very much. We love you. God willing, we shall be back next year and we shall be back in a big way.”

At Tononoka Grounds, the rhetoric became more direct, with Gachagua issuing strong personal attacks against unnamed political figures, stating: “Kenyan you are con man and you have no space to lead Kenya.” He also added: “He is a fraud.”

The rally reinforced broader opposition themes centred on governance, accountability, and national reform, with leaders criticising unmet 2022 election promises and raising concerns over healthcare, education, taxation, and youth employment.

Kalonzo Musyoka supported the broader message, focusing on constitutionalism, judicial independence, and democratic accountability within the coalition framework.

The leaders positioned their alliance as a “United Alternative Government,” calling for political change ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.

The tour ended with renewed mobilisation calls in Mombasa, with both leaders pledging continued engagement in coastal politics and nationwide outreach in the lead-up to the next election.
