Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo in collaboration with other national and regional leaders, today engaged the Busia Bodaboda leadership on the critical role of the sector

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has defended President William Ruto’s development agenda, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration is ensuring equal distribution of projects across all regions of the country regardless of political affiliation. He spoke during a Boda Boda Stakeholder Engagement Forum attended by more than 2,000 riders in Busia County.

“We have a president that is equalizing. Tuko na rais ambaye anasawazisha nchi.”

Omollo said the government’s infrastructure agenda was being implemented uniformly across counties, citing ongoing road projects in Western Kenya and other parts of the country as evidence of balanced development under President Ruto’s administration.

“Tukiongea mambo ya barabara, the same way we are building roads in Busia County is the same way roads are being built in Bungoma County. The same way roads are being built in Mombasa County and everywhere across the country.”

The Interior PS urged residents of Western Kenya to continue supporting the government, arguing that the region was already benefiting from major state projects and programmes targeting economic empowerment and infrastructure expansion.

“So as someone who comes from this region, we have a responsibility to ensure that we sustain those developments. So there is no way someone will tell you that we need to go out so that you come and negotiate for power.”

Omollo maintained that Western Kenya leaders and residents should remain aligned with the government in order to secure continued investments and avoid political divisions that could derail ongoing development projects.

“You are already inside na hatuwezi ruhusu viongozi kutoka huku Magharibi ama sehemu yoyote ya Kenya kutupoteza ama kututoa mbali na serikali ambayo inafanya mambo mengi.”

He pointed to visible projects in Busia and neighbouring counties, including water connectivity initiatives, market construction and road works, saying the region was witnessing unprecedented levels of government activity.

“Tangu hii dunia iumbwe, hatujawahi ona ukienda kuna pipes inaendelea karibu inaisha. Mambo ya markets, kuna masoko zinaendelea, kuna zingine zimekamilika.”

The PS criticised individuals he accused of attempting to frustrate government programmes through political campaigns and court actions aimed at stopping implementation of key projects.

“Alafu unapata mtu anakuja hapa na stori mingi, wengine wanaenda kotini kusimamisha mipango za serikali.”

Omollo further praised President Ruto’s leadership style, saying the administration’s development model was promoting inclusion and ensuring all Kenyans felt represented in national progress and economic transformation.

“As the people who come from Western Kenya, we have every belief and faith in His Excellency President Ruto because of his steadfast leadership, because of his equalization program that ensures that every Kenyan feels that they truly belong to this country.”

He said residents of Busia and the wider Western Kenya region were now witnessing implementation of projects that had been promised for years but had remained stalled under previous administrations.

“And to the people of Busia, there are things that the people of Busia and the people of Western Kenya long dreamt about; President Ruto has made it a reality. Ipo watu wanajaribu kuhujumu serikali hii vile mmeelezwa.”

The Interior PS also referenced the planned extension of the Standard Gauge Railway to Malaba, accusing critics of attempting to derail projects that could transform trade and transport in the region.

“Uhuru huyu mlimuonako hapa Busia si alikuja tu hapa akitafuta kura? After that, hata reli ilibaki na uwanja. Sasa Ruto analeta Reli Malaba.”

Omollo defended ongoing road construction works linking Busia and surrounding areas, dismissing opposition calls against the projects and urging residents to support government development programmes.

“Watu wanasema ati sisi tuachane na barabara ya Rivoni inatengenezwa kuja Busia. Unasema tuache? Mnakubali hiyo?”

The PS also highlighted construction of a new stadium in the region, saying the project would create jobs for young people and boost local economic opportunities once completed.

“Stadium inajengwa, kuna mtu anasema tuache? Na inajengwa vijana wetu zaidi ya 2,000 watapata kazi kule. Wanasema tuache?”

During the forum, Omollo also urged boda boda operators to formally organise themselves into SACCOs and recognised associations, saying this would improve professionalism, accountability and cooperation with security agencies in addressing criminal infiltration within the sector.
