Oburu Oginga joined Muslim faithful in marking Eid-ul-Fitr with a strong appeal for national cohesion, urging Kenyans to embrace peace, inclusivity, and shared identity during the celebrations that signify the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Orange Democratic Movement leader was in Kisumu, where he attended Eid festivities alongside William Ruto and a host of local and national leaders. The gathering brought together Muslim faithful, political figures, and community representatives in a show of interfaith unity.

During the event, Oburu emphasized the importance of national harmony, calling on citizens to use the occasion to strengthen bonds across religious and ethnic lines. He noted that Eid-ul-Fitr represents not only spiritual renewal but also an opportunity to reinforce social cohesion.

He highlighted the need for inclusivity in Kenya’s socio-political landscape, stressing that the country’s progress depends on unity among its diverse communities. According to him, moments of religious celebration should serve as reminders of shared values and collective responsibility.

Oburu further urged leaders across the political divide to champion peace and tolerance, particularly in a period marked by shifting political dynamics. He cautioned against divisive rhetoric, instead advocating for dialogue and mutual respect.

The ODM leader also acknowledged the discipline and devotion demonstrated by Muslims during Ramadan, describing the month as one that promotes compassion, charity, and self-reflection. He encouraged Kenyans of all faiths to draw lessons from these values.

His message comes as the government declared a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, allowing citizens nationwide to participate in the celebrations that include communal prayers, charity, and family gatherings.

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant dates in the Islamic calendar, marks the end of a month-long period of fasting and spiritual reflection, and is widely observed across Kenya with prayers, feasting, and acts of generosity aimed at uplifting the less fortunate.
