No Ticket? No Problem—Kenya Kicks Off CHAN Fan Zones for Zambia Clash

In a first-of-its-kind move since the 2024 African Nations Championship began, Kenyan fans without match tickets can now catch the game at official fan "watch zones." This pilot initiative kicks off ahead of Sunday's clash between Harambee Stars and Zambia's Chipolopolo, set for 8:00 PM at Kasarani.
Ahead of the match, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and security partners have rolled out tighter protocols to prevent repeat security breaches. Fans must now check in a full five hours before kick-off, and entry is strictly limited to those holding e-tickets on their mobile phones—no printed tickets allowed.
LOC chair Nic Musonye emphasized the importance of compliance: tickets must be purchased only through approved online platforms, attendees must arrive early, and e-tickets must be kept ready on their phones for seamless entry.
“To ensure the safety of all attendees, the smooth running and success of the tournament, and to maintain the envious reputation of Kenyan football, we call on all supporters to strictly observe the following safety measures,” Chair of the LOC, Nic Musonye said in a statement.
He went on: “You are advised to purchase match tickets only from the authorized online vendor as only e-tickets will be valid form of entry, and not printed versions; you are encouraged to arrive at the stadium on Match Day at least five (5) hours before kick-off with your ticket ready on your mobile phone for quick verification”
These measures follow crowd control failures in prior matches, notably during the heated victory over Morocco, where hundreds of ticketless fans breached security lines. That incident prompted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to cap stadium attendance at 60%, with only 27,000 tickets released, and slap Kenya with a hefty KSh 2.5 million fine.
