The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) have signed an MoU to promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kenya's expanding economy.
The partnership's goal is to ensure PWDs are not excluded from economic growth, providing them with the same chances for success as other citizens.
According to Dr. Erick Rutto, the President of KNCCI, the partnership is a "clear statement of support for inclusivity in the workplace, aiming to create lasting economic value for businesses and the nation."
He emphasized the importance of fostering a business culture that allows everyone to contribute and thrive.
The Ag. Eva Njoroge, CEO of the Council, highlighted the timely nature of this collaboration, noting the upcoming Persons with Disabilities Act of 2025.
She explained that the partnership will not only help businesses comply with the new legislation but also "create real opportunities for persons with disabilities to thrive as entrepreneurs and employees."
The joint effort is expected to fully integrate PWDs into Kenya's business ecosystem.
The partnership will focus on several key areas, including supporting PWDs in starting and expanding businesses, ensuring companies comply with disability-related laws, and providing essential digital and vocational training.
