NCPWD Calls For Synergy In Preparations For International Week Of Deaf Persons' Celebrations
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has called on different organizations to synergize their individual efforts to form one strong voice ahead of the International Week of Deaf People celebrations.
NCPWD Executive Director Harun Hassan made the call during a follow-up meeting with representatives from the Deaf Community after meeting President William Ruto at the state house on Tuesday.
During the meeting, a seven-member organizing committee was formed to ensure successful celebrations and finalize a Joint Memorandum to be shared with the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service on the issues affecting deaf persons in Kenya.
Each year, Deaf Awareness Week brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate the Deaf community, its language, culture, and history. It is a time to learn about the experiences of Deaf people and to advocate for equal access to communication and services.
Deaf Awareness Week starts on September 18, 2023, with the theme “A World Where Deaf People Can Sign Anywhere.”
