Chelsea winger mykhylo Mudryk was banned last year

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has reportedly passed a lie detector test as part of his defence against doping allegations, according to sources close to his legal team. The test result is being used to support his claim that he never knowingly ingested any banned substances, although it holds no official weight in the ongoing investigation.

The case arose in December 2024 after Mudryk returned a positive test for the prohibited substance Meldonium during a routine check, resulting in a provisional suspension. The 24-year-old declared the outcome “a complete shock” and maintains his innocence, insisting he did not intentionally take anything illegal.

Mudryk voluntarily underwent the polygraph examination earlier this year. While the result has been portrayed as favourable to his version of events, experts note that such tests are not recognised as evidence under FA or international anti-doping regulations. The Football Association has already charged him with violations, and the final outcome depends on official disciplinary procedures.

Authorities are now awaiting the outcome of the B-sample analysis, which could either overturn or confirm the initial finding. If upheld, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, a decision that would have major implications for his playing career. Under strict liability rules, athletes are responsible for all substances present in their bodies, regardless of intent.

Since his suspension, Mudryk has reportedly been training privately with an external coach in London, unable to access Chelsea’s Cobham training facilities. His hopes of returning to professional football hinge on the final ruling of the case, with the club understood to be closely monitoring developments.
