France battled back from behind to secure a 2–1 victory against Iceland in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night. The result keeps Les Bleus unbeaten and firmly on top of Group D with six points from their opening two matches.

The visitors stunned the Paris crowd when Andri Gudjohnsen pounced on a defensive lapse to put Iceland ahead in the 21st minute. France responded strongly and equalized just before halftime when Marcus Thuram was fouled inside the box and Kylian Mbappé calmly converted the penalty.

The French captain turned provider after the break, launching a swift counterattack in the 62nd minute before setting up Bradley Barcola to fire in the winning goal. However, Didier Deschamps’ side was forced to defend with ten men for the final stages after Aurélien Tchouaméni was shown a red card in the 68th minute.

Iceland thought they had rescued a late point in stoppage time, but their equalizer was ruled out by VAR for a foul on Ibrahima Konaté. France ultimately held on to secure three crucial points in front of their home fans.

Mbappé’s goal took his international tally to 52, moving him past Thierry Henry into second place on France’s all-time scoring list, with only Olivier Giroud ahead. The win extends France’s formidable home record in World Cup qualifiers, underlining their status as early favorites in the group.
