Jubilee deputy party leader Dr Fred Matiangi addressing the press early today
Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i has defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta, urging political actors to stop involving him in disputes that do not concern him. Speaking at a press conference on January 6, 2026, Matiang’i said Uhuru should be allowed to participate in national discourse without being unfairly pulled into controversies.
Matiang’i specifically warned politicians against dragging the retired president into internal party wrangles and unrelated political arguments. He noted that such actions were unnecessary and risked distorting public perception about Uhuru’s role in national affairs.
The deputy party leader emphasised that Jubilee remains committed to peace and unity in Kenya’s political landscape. He said the party does not seek conflict with any political formation and encouraged other leaders to focus on substantive national issues rather than personal attacks.
Matiang’i reiterated that Jubilee has no role in internal debates or disputes within other political parties. He dismissed claims that the party interferes in the affairs of formations like the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying each party should handle its own issues independently.
He further stressed that Jubilee respects the autonomy of other political parties and supports multiparty democracy. Matiang’i said political debates should focus on governance, development, and service delivery, rather than unfounded controversies or personal attacks.
In his remarks, Matiang’i also addressed allegations surrounding the funding of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya election agents during the 2022 polls. He urged critics to direct their attention to facts and avoid implicating Uhuru in issues that were managed by other party officials.
Matiang’i highlighted Jubilee’s collaborative approach with other parties under the United Opposition framework. He said discussions on electoral processes, including preparations for the 2027 general election, are conducted respectfully and with the goal of fostering unity rather than conflict.
He concluded by appealing to all political leaders to exercise restraint and uphold a culture of respect in public engagements. Matiang’i said allowing Uhuru to participate in national discourse without unnecessary attacks would strengthen democracy and political stability in the country.
