Manchester United secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, confirming their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League after a thrilling Premier League clash.
United made a blistering start, taking control of the match early and putting Liverpool under immediate pressure with high-intensity attacking play.
The breakthrough came in the sixth minute when Matheus Cunha fired the hosts into the lead after capitalising on a loose ball inside the penalty area.
Just eight minutes later, Benjamin Šeško doubled United’s advantage, finishing off a swift attacking move to make it 2-0 inside the opening quarter-hour.
Liverpool struggled to cope with the early pressure but returned stronger in the second half, showing greater urgency and control in midfield.
Their comeback began when Dominik Szoboszlai pulled one back with a composed finish to reduce the deficit.
The visitors then levelled matters through Cody Gakpo, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to make it 2-2 and set up a tense finale.
With both sides pushing forward, the match opened up into an end-to-end contest, with chances created at either end.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when Kobbie Mainoo struck from the edge of the box to restore United’s lead and ignite celebrations among the home supporters.
Liverpool pressed for a late equaliser, but United’s defence held firm under pressure to secure all three points.
The victory lifted Manchester United to a points tally that guarantees a top-five finish in the Premier League.
As a result, United have now mathematically secured qualification for the Champions League, marking their return to Europe’s elite competition, while Liverpool remain in a tight race to secure their own spot.
