Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in a crucial Premier League clash at Old Trafford, boosting their chances of securing a Champions League spot as the season heads into its final stretch.

After a tight opening half, the two sides went into the break level at 0-0 despite several chances created by the hosts. United controlled possession and pressed forward but were repeatedly denied by Villa’s organized defense and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

United finally broke the deadlock early in the second half when Casemiro headed home from a corner in the 53rd minute. The Brazilian midfielder rose highest in the box to guide Bruno Fernandes’ delivery past Martínez.

Villa responded in the 64th minute through Ross Barkley, who struck a powerful effort from inside the area following a cross by Lucas Digne to level the match at 1-1.

The equaliser briefly lifted the visitors, but United quickly regained control and restored their lead in the 71st minute. Matheus Cunha finished calmly after receiving a precise through ball from Fernandes.

United continued to dominate the closing stages as Villa struggled to contain the hosts’ attacking momentum. Fernandes remained influential in midfield, dictating the tempo and creating further chances.

Substitute Benjamin Šeško sealed the victory in the 81st minute. The striker reacted quickly inside the penalty area to fire home and extend United’s lead to 3-1.

Fernandes’ performance was pivotal, with the Portuguese midfielder registering two assists and reaching a significant milestone in his United career while leading the team’s attacking play.

The win strengthened Manchester United’s position in the top four race, while Aston Villa remained close behind in the standings as the battle for Champions League qualification intensifies.
