Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has urged leaders from rival political camps in the Mt Kenya region to set aside their differences and work together for the benefit of the community. He warned that continued infighting could destabilize the region politically and stressed the importance of cohesion and issue-based leadership.
Njenga made the appeal during preparations for the burial of his father, the late Stephen Kamunya Njoroge, in N’garua, Laikipia County. The funeral, scheduled for December 31, is expected to attract politicians and community leaders from across the region.
Speaking to attendees, Njenga emphasized that political unity is essential for the development and stability of Mt Kenya, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. He urged leaders to focus on the region’s collective interests rather than personal ambitions.
Kiambu leaders, including Kabete parliamentary aspirant James Wanjohi, attended the event and echoed Njenga’s call for peace and collaboration. They said that the funeral presents an opportunity for politicians to demonstrate solidarity and shared commitment to the region’s future.
Organizers have made arrangements to accommodate a large number of mourners, including at least 26 buses to transport supporters to Laikipia. They encouraged residents to attend the funeral as a sign of respect and to promote regional unity.
Njenga concluded by stressing that the occasion should not be politicized or used to deepen divisions. Instead, he called on leaders and residents to use the gathering to strengthen relationships, foster dialogue, and chart a united path forward for Mt Kenya.
