Liverpool Suffer Early Setback as Frimpong Ruled Out With Injury

Liverpool have been dealt an early-season blow after summer signing Jeremie Frimpong was ruled out until the end of the international break. Manager Arne Slot confirmed on Wednesday that the Dutch right-back has suffered a hamstring injury and will not be available for selection in the coming weeks.
The 23-year-old, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in a highly anticipated transfer, picked up the knock shortly after Liverpool’s opening weekend win over Bournemouth at Anfield. The Reds claimed a 4-2 victory in Slot’s first 2025/26 league match in charge, but the result was overshadowed by the news of Frimpong’s setback.
Frimpong had been expected to play a crucial role in Slot’s new-look Liverpool system, offering attacking width and pace from the right flank. His absence leaves the manager short of options in that position, with Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to continue in his traditional role while youngster Conor Bradley may be handed more opportunities.
Slot expressed confidence that the injury is not long-term but stressed that the medical team would take no risks with the player’s recovery. “Jeremie will not be available before the international break. We expect him back after that, but we need to monitor him closely,” the Liverpool boss said.
The injury comes at a critical time as Liverpool prepare for a busy run of fixtures, including league games against tougher opposition before the first international window of the season. Supporters will be hoping Frimpong returns fit and ready to make his mark in what promises to be a demanding campaign.
