The English Premier League has officially released the 2026/27 season fixture list, with defending champions Arsenal set to begin their title defence at home against newly promoted Coventry City in the opening match of the campaign.
The season opener will be played at Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21, marking the official start of another 38-round league campaign expected to run until May 30, 2027. The schedule was adjusted slightly to align with the global football calendar following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Arsenal head into the new season carrying the pressure and expectations that come with being champions. After ending their long wait for the Premier League crown, Mikel Arteta’s side will aim to make an immediate statement in front of their home supporters.
For Coventry City, the fixture represents a dramatic return to England’s top division after spending a quarter of a century outside the Premier League. Their promotion campaign has brought renewed optimism and immediate exposure to one of football’s biggest stages.
The opening encounter is expected to attract significant global attention due to the contrast between the reigning champions and one of the season’s newly promoted clubs beginning life back among the elite.
Elsewhere, the opening round presents several notable fixtures involving traditional contenders and clubs seeking stronger campaigns after mixed performances last season.
Manchester United begin their season with an away assignment against promoted Hull City, while Liverpool open with a demanding trip to Newcastle United in one of the standout fixtures of the first weekend.
Manchester City will launch their campaign at home against Bournemouth as they seek to regain the title, while Chelsea begin with a London derby expected to provide an early test.
The newly promoted sides face difficult introductions overall, with early fixtures immediately testing their readiness for Premier League football and the demands of the competition.
League officials confirmed the campaign will maintain the standard structure of 380 matches across 38 rounds, with scheduling designed to support player welfare and accommodate domestic and European competitions.
Attention is also expected to build around major derby dates already placed across the calendar, including Manchester, North London and Merseyside rivalries that could shape the direction of the title race.
Although the fixtures are now confirmed, clubs and supporters have been reminded that dates and kick-off times may still change throughout the season because of television selections, cup commitments and European competition schedules.
