Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Everton in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. The Reds started strongly, taking the lead in the 10th minute when Ryan Gravenberch converted from a Mohamed Salah assist. Hugo Ekitike doubled the advantage in the 29th minute, slotting home after linking up well with Gravenberch.

Everton responded after the break, pulling one back through Iliman Ndiaye in the 58th minute, assisted by Idrissa Gueye. Despite a late surge from the Toffees, Liverpool’s defense held firm, withstanding several attacks and maintaining their lead. Tempers flared in the second half with multiple fouls and bookings, including yellow cards for Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The result leaves Liverpool top of the table with 15 points from five matches, while Everton sit seventh with seven points. Arne Slot's side will be pleased with their perfect start to the season, while David Moyes men will look to bounce back after falling short in a spirited derby performance.
