Arsenal suffered a damaging setback in the Premier League title race after surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers on a dramatic night at Molineux Stadium.
The Gunners appeared to be cruising after racing into a commanding advantage, asserting control in the opening stages with fluid attacking play and sharp movement in the final third. Their early dominance suggested another routine step toward the crown.
Bukayo Saka opened the scoring with a composed finish before defender Piero Hincapié doubled the lead, putting the visitors firmly in command and silencing the home crowd.
Wolves, however, refused to fold. Hugo Bueno pulled one back midway through the second half, shifting the momentum and injecting belief into the hosts as Arsenal’s composure began to waver.
The turning point came deep into stoppage time when teenager Tom Edozie struck a dramatic equaliser, sending Molineux into celebration and leaving Arsenal players stunned at the final whistle.
For Mikel Arteta’s side, the dropped points represent a significant psychological blow. What had looked like a comfortable victory turned into another example of vulnerability under pressure in the decisive stretch of the campaign.
The result tightens the race at the summit, with Manchester City poised to capitalise. City remain within striking distance and hold a game in hand, a factor that could prove decisive in the closing weeks.
Arsenal have now dropped crucial points in consecutive fixtures, including a recent draw against Brentford, raising questions about their ability to maintain consistency as the pressure intensifies.
While the Gunners remain top of the table, the margin for error has narrowed considerably. Wolves, meanwhile, walk away with a result that may define their season — and one that could ultimately reshape the destination of the title.
Mikel Arteta: “It's very tough to accept it, but yeah, second half we didn't perform at any level in any aspect of the standards are required to win a game in the Premier League and we pay the price.
“Too many things what went wrong was one after the other, basically. And we never got any dominance or control of the game. We scored the second goal and it's still there. So it's better not to judge it. We are all too emotional about it. And it's not the moment to do it.
“It's a moment when you don't perform and you are at this level, and expectations are where they are. Now you have to take the hit because that's what we deserve.”
