Former President Kibaki's Requiem Mass
Former President Mwai Kibaki’s body departed from the Lee Funeral Home and proceeded to State House Nairobi where it was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mzee Kibaki's body thereafter proceeded to the Nyayo stadium where the State funeral service is set to be held.
Major roads in the city have been closed to facilitate movement to the venue.
Kenyans queued to pay their last respects to the late president for the past three days at parliament from Monday to Wednesday.
The government declared Friday, 29th, April a public holiday to allow Kenyans to mourn and attend the service of the late president.
Senior government officials are already present at the venue as more than 10 heads of state are expected to attend the mass.
The remaining activities are as follows:
10:45 AM: The State reception of President Mwai Kibaki's Funeral Procession. Guard of Honour.
Procession to the Altar. Head of State, CDF, VCDF, and Svc Comds witness the mounting of the casket on the catafalque. Paying last respects by visiting Heads of State.
11 AM: The State Funeral Service. Requiem Mass in Celebration of the Life of President Mwai Kibaki celebrated by His Grace Arch. Bishop Philip Anyolo assisted by His Grace Arch. Bishop Martin lthuva.
1 PM: Tributes
2 PM: Retreat of the cortege of the late President Mwai Kibaki. The National Anthem
2:10 PM: The President leaves the Nyayo National Stadium followed by other visiting Heads of State and Governments.
The former Head-of-State Mwai Kibaki will be laid to rest in Othaya, Nyeri County on Saturday 29th of April, 2022.
