Chelsea bench celebrations after Enzo Fernandez last minute equalizer
Manchester City were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Chelsea after a stoppage-time equaliser at the Etihad Stadium, dropping two crucial points in the Premier League title race. City looked on course for victory after taking a first-half lead, but Chelsea struck deep into added time to snatch a share of the spoils.
Tijjani Reijnders put the hosts ahead in the 42nd minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give City a deserved 1-0 advantage at the break. Pep Guardiola’s side controlled long spells of the match, creating chances and limiting Chelsea’s attacking threat for much of the contest.
Chelsea, however, stayed in the game and pushed forward late on. Their persistence paid off in the 90th minute when Enzo Fernández found the net in added time, stunning the home crowd and ensuring the points were shared. The goal capped a tense finale that saw both sides battle fiercely in midfield.
The result leaves Manchester City second on the table with 42 points after 20 matches, six behind leaders Arsenal, while Chelsea sit fifth on 31 points as they continue their push for European qualification. Despite the draw, Reijnders’ influential performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Both teams now turn their focus to the next round of fixtures, with City under pressure to keep pace at the top and Chelsea encouraged by a late comeback against one of the league’s strongest sides.
