Lamine Yamal Faces Extended Spell Out With Serious Groin Injury

Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal has been ruled out of action after medical tests revealed his groin injury is more severe than first thought. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo confirmed the teenager is suffering from pubalgia, a recurring and delicate condition that requires careful management to avoid long-term damage.
The 18-year-old first felt discomfort during Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Levante on August 23, but the problem worsened after the match against Rayo Vallecano a week later. His international duty with Spain further aggravated the issue, leaving the player in significant pain and forcing Barcelona to withdraw him from training and competitive fixtures.
As a result, Yamal will miss Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, a huge blow for Hansi Flick’s side. He is also expected to sit out the forthcoming league matches against Getafe and Real Oviedo, with the club confirming they will take a cautious approach to his recovery.
Head coach Hansi Flick had voiced his frustration at the workload placed on young players during international duty, insisting that greater care must be taken to protect their long-term fitness. With Yamal sidelined, new signing Marcus Rashford is tipped to step into the attack as Barcelona look to maintain momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
The club’s medical staff are now targeting a return for Yamal in time for the marquee Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1. While the news comes as a setback for fans eager to see him shine, Barcelona are determined to avoid risking a relapse that could rule him out for much longer.
