The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially submitted a bid to host a leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium. If successful, it would mark the first time Kenya stages a stop on the prestigious global circuit.
The proposal targets one of the Division 2 events in 2026, building on Nyayo Stadium’s proven capacity after successfully hosting the CHAN 2024 tournament. Kenya is positioning itself as ready to welcome world-class rugby action to East Africa.
Shujaa recently secured a Division 2 slot after defeating Canada 24-5, while the Lionesses also booked promotion with a dramatic win over South Africa. These achievements have boosted confidence in the country’s ability to stage a top-level event.
Hosting the series would not only elevate Kenya’s profile on the world rugby stage but also provide a crucial boost ahead of the LA 2028 Olympics.
