Civil Societies Organizations based in Kitui county have vowed to engage the county assembly to pass Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) bill.

The groups are advocating for good governance in the county in a bid for the special groups to easily access resources.

Speaking during a forum organized by Transparency International, Komu Samuel TI representative said they are lobbying for inclusion in resource allocation and directly supporting groups that have been left behind at the intersection of income, wealth, and social inequalities.

He further called upon the government and other stakeholders to hasten their efforts in bridging the existing gaps and ensuring special groups get help.

Komu exuded confidence that once the bill is passed, policies and laws will be enacted to guide resource allocation to the special groups in the county.

He noted that they are making a follow up to understand what is entailed in the bill to come up with the right approach.

At the same time, United Disabled Persons and Associate (UDPA) Kitui, Charles Musee echoed Komu's sentiments urging CSOs to come together and champion for the bill.

He lamented that Kitui county PWDs bill was drafted in 2016 and presented to county assembly but was never passed.

BLINK Executive Director and Amkeni Wakenya board member, Kennedy Siocha during his address alluded that they are working together with other stakeholders to ensure People with Disabilities are involved in decision-making at the county level.

He said PWDs bill has already been adopted in Kajiado, Machakos, Nairobi and Nyeri counties which is a great milestone towards achieving resource allocation to special groups.

Meanwhile, nominated Member of the Kitui County Assembly Charity Musyoka confirmed that they are in the first stages of formulating the bill where they are b collecting input from different stakeholders, CBOs and PWDs.
